Self Reliance
By ourselves is evil done
By ourselves we pain endure
By ourselves we cease from wrong
By ourselves become we pure

No one save us but ourselves
No one can and no one may
We ourselves must walk the path,
Buddhas merely show the way.

Dhamma Books
There are a wide variety of books that have been published about Buddhism. This section contains books that are considered core representations of the Buddha's teachings. Some of the content is directly from the Tipitika and others come from authors that we know and trust.

  • Bhikkhu Nyanasobhano  ( 4 items )
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Bhikkhu Nyanasobhano graduated from Dartmouth College, where he majored in English. He subsequently worked as an actor and writer. In 1987 he ordained in Bangkok at Wat Mahadhatu and took the name Bhikkhu Nyanasobhano . He has spent time in Thailand and Sri Lanka, and currently resides in the United States.

  • Bhante Gunaratana  ( 2 items )
Bhante Henepola Gunaratana is the founding Abbot of the Bhavana Society.  “Bhante G” (as he is fondly called by his students) has written a number of books, including the now-classic meditation manual Mindfulness In Plain English and its companion Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness.

  • Nikaya  ( 5 items )
In the Theravada canon (in particular, the "Discourse Basket" or Sutta Pitaka) the meaning of nikaya is roughly equivalent to the English "collection", and is used to describe groupings of discourses according to theme, length, or other categories. For example, the Sutta Pitaka is broken up into five nikayas. Below are links to each of the Five Nikaya.
